On the morning of November 23, the unveiling ceremony for Shantou University Guangzhou Huaxin Orthopedic Hospital and the first Shantou University Orthopedic Summit Forum were held in Guangzhou. Professor Jiang Hong, Party Secretary and President of Shantou University; Mr. Feng Yaoliang, Chairman of the Board of Huaxin Group; Professor Ao Yingfang, Deputy Party Secretary of Peking University; Tan Xuerui, Dean of Shantou University Medical College; Jin Dadi, President of Shantou University Guangzhou Huaxin Orthopedic Hospital; and other leaders, as well as renowned experts and scholars from the medical community, attended the ceremony.
“Achieving comprehensive collaboration between public and private hospitals, tertiary Grade A hospitals and primary-level hospitals, and specialty hospitals and general hospitals is a new service model advocated by the government to advance the ‘Healthy China’ strategy,” Jin Dadi said. Under this concept, he noted, this partnership between strong institutions represents another exploration of the medical consortium model.
“Our goal is to achieve results within three to five years in the development of national key disciplines and the completion of key scientific research projects at the provincial level or above, to build a leading regional orthopedic diagnosis and treatment center brand in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and to serve patients wholeheartedly with excellent medical expertise and sincere service,” Jin Dadi said.
Jin Dadi noted that as early as May this year, the National Health Commission issued a document promoting the development of closely integrated county-level medical and health communities. “The document requires that by 2020, the county-level consultation rate should reach 90%, and the primary-level consultation rate within counties should reach around 65%. This means that primary-level and private medical resources must become stronger at the same time.” He introduced that Shantou University has been at the forefront of healthcare reform in China. Since taking the lead in exploring medical consortium development in 2006, it has pioneered the domestic model in which large public hospitals manage private hospitals, making significant contributions to medical services in eastern Guangdong and the Chaoshan region.
Jiang Hong, Party Secretary and President of Shantou University, said that the unveiling of Shantou University Guangzhou Huaxin Orthopedic Hospital marks a strong beginning for cooperation between high-quality university medical resources and social capital. She expressed hope that more efforts would be made in the future to integrate resources and establish a new integrated medical service system, providing the Greater Bay Area with specialty medical services of the highest quality.
